Canadiens take down Blue Jackets, but lose Gallagher to injury
Savard's overtime winner lifts Montreal past Columbus
Gallagher exits game with apparent lower-body injury
The Montreal Canadiens picked up a 4-3 overtime victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night, but the win came at a cost as Brendan Gallagher left the game with an apparent lower-body injury.
Gallagher was injured in the second period after a collision with Blue Jackets defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov. He did not return to the game.
The Canadiens' win was their third in a row and improved their record to 10-5-2 on the season. The Blue Jackets, meanwhile, fell to 6-9-1.
David Savard scored the overtime winner for the Canadiens just 1:28 into the extra period. It was his second goal of the game and fourth of the season.
Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield also scored for the Canadiens, while Johnny Gaudreau, Boone Jenner, and Patrik Laine replied for the Blue Jackets.
Canadiens goaltender Jake Allen made 31 saves in the win, while Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins stopped 28 shots.
The Canadiens will be back in action on Thursday night when they host the New York Rangers. The Blue Jackets will be back in action on Friday night when they host the New Jersey Devils.
Gallagher's injury a major blow to Canadiens
Gallagher is one of the Canadiens' most important players. He is a key member of their top line and is one of their best penalty killers.
If Gallagher is out for an extended period of time, it will be a major blow to the Canadiens. They are already without Carey Price, who is out with a knee injury.
The Canadiens will need to find a way to replace Gallagher's production and leadership if they want to continue their success this season.
