CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Poilievre asks one of the Randy's to resign
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is asking one of his MPs to resign after he was caught on camera making inappropriate comments about women.
The video, which was posted on social media, shows Randy Hillier, the MP for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston, making sexist remarks about women's intelligence and appearance.
Hillier has since apologized for his comments, but Poilievre said that they were "unacceptable" and that he was asking Hillier to resign.
"I have spoken to Mr. Hillier and I have asked him to resign from the Conservative caucus," Poilievre said in a statement. "His comments were unacceptable and do not reflect the values of our party."
Hillier has not yet said whether he will resign.
The video of Hillier's comments has sparked outrage among many Canadians, who have called for him to be held accountable for his words.
Some people have also criticized Poilievre for not taking action against Hillier sooner.
Poilievre has said that he was not aware of the video until it was posted on social media.
He said that he took action as soon as he became aware of the comments.
The Conservative Party of Canada has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination and harassment.
The party's code of conduct states that members must "treat all persons with respect and dignity, regardless of their race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, family status, genetic characteristics, disability or political beliefs."
Hillier's comments are a clear violation of the party's code of conduct.
It is up to Hillier to decide whether he will resign from the Conservative caucus.
If he does not resign, Poilievre may have no choice but to expel him from the party.
