Bruins Fall to Blue Jackets in Overtime Thriller
March 6, 2023
The Columbus Blue Jackets continued their recent hot streak on Sunday night, defeating the Boston Bruins 4-3 in overtime. The win extends Columbus' winning streak to four games, and moves them into a tie for the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Blue Jackets got off to a fast start, scoring two goals in the first period. Oliver Bjorkstrand opened the scoring just 2:32 into the game, and Patrik Laine doubled the lead with a power-play goal at 12:45.
Boston fought back in the second period, tying the game with goals from Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak. But Columbus regained the lead in the third period when Boone Jenner scored a power-play goal at 7:02.
The Bruins tied the game again with just 1:56 remaining in regulation, when David Krejci scored on a pass from Marchand. But the Blue Jackets would not be denied, as Laine scored the game-winning goal in overtime at 3:20.
The win was a big one for the Blue Jackets, who are now just one point behind the New York Islanders for the second Wild Card spot. Columbus has been one of the hottest teams in the NHL since the All-Star break, going 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.
The Bruins, meanwhile, have lost two straight games and are now four points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for the top spot in the Atlantic Division. Boston will look to get back on track on Tuesday night when they host the New York Rangers.
