Dak Prescott in Disbelief Over Cowboys' Botched Fake Punt Attempt
Head Coach Mike McCarthy Takes Blame for Disastrous Play Call
Cowboys' Season Takes Another Hit with Embarrassing Loss
ARLINGTON, Texas - Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was left in a state of disbelief following the team's botched fake punt attempt in their Week 15 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
With the Cowboys trailing 14-3 in the third quarter, head coach Mike McCarthy made the controversial decision to attempt a fake punt on 4th and 6 from their own 33-yard line. The play, which involved Prescott taking a direct snap and running the ball, was immediately sniffed out by the Jaguars' defense.
Jacksonville's Jamal Agnew tackled Prescott for a loss of 1 yard, giving the Jaguars excellent field position and setting up their eventual game-sealing touchdown drive. Prescott, who has struggled with his health and performance this season, was visibly frustrated by the play call.
"I don't know what we were thinking," Prescott said after the game. "That was a terrible decision, and it cost us the game."
McCarthy took full responsibility for the failed fake punt attempt, admitting that he made a "bad call" in a crucial moment.
"That's on me," McCarthy said. "I have to do a better job of putting our players in position to succeed, and I didn't do that today."
The botched fake punt attempt was just the latest in a series of setbacks for the Cowboys this season. The team, which entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations, is now 8-7 and in danger of missing the playoffs.
Prescott's struggles have been a major factor in the Cowboys' disappointing season. The quarterback has thrown for just 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this year, and his completion percentage has dipped to 62.9%.
The Cowboys will look to bounce back in their Week 16 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, with their playoff hopes fading, the team's season is hanging in the balance.
