Backup Quarterback Cooper Rush's Three Interceptions Prove Costly
The New York Giants defeated the Dallas Cowboys, 34-10, on Monday Night Football at AT&T Stadium, handing the Cowboys their first loss of the season and dropping them into a tie with the Giants for first place in the NFC East.
The Cowboys were missing several key players due to injury, including starting quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver Michael Gallup, and cornerback Trevon Diggs.
Rush, making his third career start, completed 21 of 31 passes for 215 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Giants took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run by running back Saquon Barkley and a 33-yard field goal by kicker Graham Gano.
The Cowboys cut the lead to 10-7 on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Rush to wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in the second quarter,
but the Giants responded with a 24-yard field goal by Gano to take a 13-7 lead into halftime.
The Giants extended their lead to 20-7 on a 1-yard touchdown run by Barkley in the third quarter.
The Cowboys cut the lead to 20-10 on a 38-yard field goal by kicker Brett Maher in the fourth quarter,
but the Giants put the game away with a 23-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Daniel Jones to wide receiver Darius Slayton and a 33-yard field goal by Gano.
The Cowboys will try to rebound next week when they host the Washington Commanders, while the Giants will try to extend their winning streak to three games when they host the Carolina Panthers.
