The boil water notice that was in effect for the city of Helene has been lifted. The notice was issued on March 16, 2023, after a water main break contaminated the city's water supply. The break was repaired on March 17, 2023, and the water supply was tested and found to be safe to drink. Residents are no longer required to boil their water before drinking it.
FEMA Distributes Aid to Households
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has distributed over $1 million in aid to households affected by the water main break in Helene. The aid was distributed in the form of debit cards, which can be used to purchase food, water, and other essential items.
Households that have been affected by the water main break can apply for FEMA assistance by visiting the FEMA website or by calling the FEMA helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Households that have already applied for FEMA assistance will receive their debit cards within the next few days.
