Hundreds of people have applied for jobs at the Venetian Resort Las Vegas as the Culinary Union strike against the Las Vegas Sands Corp. continues, according to a company spokesperson.
Venetian Resort Hiring Non-Union Workers
The Venetian Resort is hiring non-union workers to fill positions previously held by union members, who have been on strike since May 26.
The Culinary Union represents over 60,000 workers in Las Vegas and has been negotiating a new contract with the Las Vegas Sands Corp. for months.
Strike Continues as Negotiations Stall
The strike has caused disruptions at the Venetian and other Las Vegas Sands properties, including the Palazzo, the Sands Expo and Convention Center, and the Venetian Expo.
Negotiations between the Culinary Union and the Las Vegas Sands Corp. have stalled, and no new talks are scheduled.
Hundreds of Applications Received
The Venetian Resort has received hundreds of applications for jobs, including positions in food and beverage, housekeeping, and guest services.
The company said it is reviewing the applications and will begin interviewing candidates soon.
Venetian Resort Not Replacing Striking Workers
The Venetian Resort said it is not replacing striking workers but is hiring new employees to fill open positions.
The company said it is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all employees and guests.
