Nevada Officer Fatally Shoots Suspect in Home Invasion
Las Vegas police fatally shot a man after he allegedly invaded a home and attacked a resident with a knife.
The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Johnnie Harris, was shot by an officer at a home on Giles Circle in the central valley around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 18.
Harris allegedly broke into the home and attacked a 75-year-old resident with a knife. Police said the victim fought back and attempted to disarm Harris.
Man Shot and Killed by Las Vegas Police
When officers arrived at the scene, Harris was reportedly still inside the home armed with the knife.
Police said they ordered Harris to drop the weapon, but he refused and advanced on the officers with the knife raised.
One officer fired a single shot, striking Harris in the abdomen. Harris was transported to University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Wrong Person Killed by Las Vegas PD?
According to Harris' brother, who was inside the home at the time of the incident, Harris was not the intended target of the shooting.
The brother said that the victim, who is his father, had called police because he was being threatened by another man who had been living at the house.
The brother said that the other man, who he identified as 44-year-old Leroy Rolland, had been staying at the house for several months and had been causing problems.

The brother said that when police arrived, they entered the home and immediately shot Harris, who was unarmed.
The brother said that Rolland, who was armed with a knife, was standing nearby and was not shot.
The brother said that he believes police mistook Harris for Rolland and shot him instead.
