Luxembourg v Northern Ireland: ‘We won’t play for a draw, we want to win’
Luxembourg boss Luc Holtz insists his team will not be playing for a draw when they take on Northern Ireland in Tuesday’s crucial Euro 2023 qualifier.
The minnows currently sit third in Group C, a point behind Northern Ireland in second and three adrift of leaders Greece.
Northern Ireland have played two games fewer than Luxembourg, but will need to better the result of Thursday’s 3-2 defeat to Greece in order to move above Baraclough’s side.
Holtz’s team head into Tuesday’s clash at Stade Josy Barthel on a three-game winning run, having beaten the Faroe Islands, Turkey and Lithuania during the international break.
The 59-year-old insists his side will not be content to settle for a draw when they face Northern Ireland and will instead go all out for victory.
“We have the momentum with us,” Holtz said. “We have won three games in a row and we are playing at home.
“We know that Northern Ireland are a good team, but we are not afraid of them.
“We will play to win the game and we believe that we can do it. We have a lot of quality in our team and we want to show that on Tuesday.
“We know that a draw would be a good result for us, but we are not going to play for that.
“We want to win the game and we believe that we can.”
