Malawi Flames Target Thrashing of Burkina Faso to Secure Respectable Finish
Flames seeking to end AFCON qualifiers on a high against the Stallions
Malawi national football team, the Flames, are targeting a resounding victory over Burkina Faso in their final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B qualifier at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. The match will be played behind closed doors.
Malawi currently sit fourth in the group with four points, while Burkina Faso are second with nine points. A win for the Flames would see them finish third in the group, while a draw would see them finish fourth.
The Flames have not won a match in the qualifiers so far, drawing 2-2 with Ethiopia in their opening match before losing 1-0 to Senegal and 2-1 to Cameroon. However, they will be buoyed by the fact that they have a good record against Burkina Faso, having won two of their three previous meetings.
Burkina Faso, meanwhile, will be looking to finish their qualifying campaign on a high after securing their place at the AFCON finals with a 2-1 win over Cape Verde in their previous match. The Stallions have been in impressive form in the qualifiers, winning three of their four matches so far.
