Musk rebuked after siding with Meloni on Italy's foreign migrant centres
Elon Musk has been criticized for siding with Giorgia Meloni, Italy's far-right prime minister, on her plans to establish foreign migrant centers.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, tweeted his support for Meloni's proposal, saying that it would help to "reduce the burden on Italy" and "save lives."
Meloni's plan has been widely criticized by human rights groups, who say it would violate international law and lead to the inhumane treatment of migrants.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has said that the plan "risks creating a system of containment and deterrence that would violate the rights of asylum seekers and refugees."
Musk's support for Meloni's plan has drawn criticism from some of his followers, who say that it is out of step with his previous statements on immigration.
In 2018, Musk tweeted that "immigration is essential for the success of the United States."
He also said that "the vast majority of immigrants are hard-working and law-abiding."
