Goals from Osimhen, Iheanacho, and Simon send Nigeria to Cameroon
The Nigeria national football team booked their place at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a convincing 3-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles, led by interim coach Augustine Eguavoen, dominated proceedings from start to finish and took the lead in the 25th minute through Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Leicester City's Kelechi Iheanacho doubled Nigeria's advantage just before half-time, and Nantes winger Moses Simon sealed the win with a fine solo effort in the second half.
The victory means Nigeria have now qualified for the AFCON finals for the 19th time, and they will be among the favorites to lift the trophy in Cameroon next January.
Osimhen in impressive form
Osimhen has been in excellent form for Nigeria in recent months, and he continued his impressive goalscoring record with the opening goal against Rwanda.
The 22-year-old striker has now scored seven goals in his last six appearances for the Super Eagles, and he will be key to their hopes of success at the AFCON.
Iheanacho provides creative spark
Iheanacho has also been in good form for Nigeria, and he provided the creative spark in the victory over Rwanda.
The 25-year-old midfielder scored the second goal and was involved in several other promising moves.
Simon impresses with solo goal
Simon was the other standout performer for Nigeria against Rwanda.
The 26-year-old winger scored a stunning solo goal to seal the win, and he was a constant threat to the Rwandan defense throughout the match.
Eguavoen praises his team
Eguavoen was delighted with his team's performance after the match.
"I am very happy with the way the team played today," he said. "We controlled the game from start to finish and created a lot of chances."
