In a highly anticipated match, Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, emerged victorious against the Rwanda national football team in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match.
The encounter, held at the Stade de Kigali in Rwanda, saw the Super Eagles dominate from the outset, controlling possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities.
The breakthrough came in the 25th minute when striker Victor Osimhen found the back of the net with a clinical finish, giving Nigeria an early lead.
Rwanda fought back with determination, but the Super Eagles defense remained resolute, thwarting their attempts to equalize.
In the second half, Nigeria continued to press forward, and their efforts were rewarded in the 55th minute when midfielder Joe Aribo doubled their advantage with a powerful shot from outside the box.
The Super Eagles held on to their lead despite Rwanda’s late surge, securing a vital 2-0 victory that keeps them firmly in top spot in Group L.
The win extends Nigeria’s unbeaten run in the AFCON qualifiers to four matches, with three wins and one draw.
Coach Augustine Eguavoen praised his team’s performance, highlighting their discipline and tactical execution.
“We knew this was a crucial match, and the players responded magnificently,” Eguavoen said.
“They followed the game plan to perfection and showed great character to secure the win.”
The victory puts Nigeria in a strong position to qualify for the 2023 AFCON tournament, which will be held in Ivory Coast.
The Super Eagles will face Guinea-Bissau in their next qualifier match, scheduled for March 2023.
