Official: Three Super Eagles Stars Ruled Out for Nigeria's AFCONQ vs Rwanda as Atalanta's Lookman Returns
Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman, has been handed a return to the Super Eagles for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Rwanda.
However, the team will be without three key players for the crucial fixtures.
Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, announced a 25-man squad for the matches against Rwanda on Thursday, March 23, and Sao Tome and Principe on Tuesday, March 28.
Lookman, who has been in impressive form for Atalanta this season, returns to the national team after missing out on the last squad due to injury.
However, Peseiro will be without the services of goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, defender Abdullahi Shehu, and midfielder Innocent Bonke for the upcoming fixtures.
Uzoho is still recovering from a long-term injury, while Shehu and Bonke have suffered knocks in recent weeks.
The Super Eagles will face Rwanda in Kigali on March 23 and host Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo on March 28.
Nigeria currently top Group A with six points from two matches, while Rwanda are bottom with no points from two games.
The top two teams in each group will qualify for the AFCON finals in Ivory Coast next year.
