Affected Pistachios Sold at Various Retailers
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a food recall warning for certain pistachio products due to potential Salmonella contamination.
The affected products are Wonderful Pistachios Roasted & Salted No Shells, 496g packages with UPC 6759808418 and best before dates of September 1, 2023, and September 2, 2023.
The CFIA advises consumers not to consume the recalled products and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Health Risks Associated with Salmonella
Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause foodborne illness. Symptoms of Salmonella infection can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fever, and headache.
In severe cases, Salmonella infection can lead to hospitalization and even death. Young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of developing severe illness.

To prevent Salmonella infection, the CFIA recommends following these guidelines:

- Avoid cross-contamination by keeping raw meat, poultry, and fish separate from other foods.
- Clean and sanitize food contact surfaces regularly.
- Refrigerate perishable foods promptly.
- Discard any food that shows signs of spoilage.
