Powell Scores 23 Points, Clippers Hold Off Warriors 102-99
Clippers Win Fourth Straight, Improve to 26-24
Norman Powell scored 23 points off the bench, including a key three-pointer with 1:38 remaining, as the Los Angeles Clippers held off the Golden State Warriors 102-99 on Wednesday night at Chase Center.
The Clippers have now won four straight games and are 10-3 in their last 13 games. They are currently in sixth place in the Western Conference standings, just two games behind the fourth-place Warriors.
Powell was one of seven Clippers players to score in double figures. Paul George led the way with 24 points, while Kawhi Leonard added 22 points. Ivica Zubac had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
The Warriors were led by Stephen Curry, who had 27 points. Klay Thompson added 22 points, and Jordan Poole had 17 points.
The game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than seven points. The Warriors had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but Poole's three-point attempt missed.
Powell's Big Night
Powell was a key contributor for the Clippers in the win. He hit 9-of-15 from the field, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. He also had four rebounds and three assists.
Powell's three-pointer with 1:38 remaining gave the Clippers a 100-96 lead. The Warriors cut the lead to one point on a three-pointer by Curry with 30 seconds remaining, but Powell made two free throws to seal the win.
Clippers' Defense Shines
The Clippers' defense was also a key factor in the win. They held the Warriors to 43.9% shooting from the field and 30.8% from three-point range.
The Clippers also forced the Warriors into 17 turnovers. The Warriors had just seven turnovers in their previous game, a 122-103 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
