Pride of St Helens 2024 - Unsung Hero shortlist
The shortlist for the Pride of St Helens Unsung Hero Award 2023 has been announced.
The award, organised by St Helens Star in partnership with headline sponsor IMAS, honours the borough’s unsung heroes; those people who go above and beyond, often without any recognition.
The judging panel had a tough job whittling down the entries to just six, but after much deliberation, the shortlist has been finalised.
The winner will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday, September 29.
The shortlist for the Pride of St Helens Unsung Hero Award 2023 is:
Emma Ashworth: Emma founded the Willow Tree Cancer Support Centre after experiencing cancer herself. The centre provides a range of free therapies for cancer patients and their families.
Frank Dooley: Frank has been a volunteer at Willow Tree Cancer Care for 10 years. He is always there to lend a helping hand, whether it’s driving patients to and from appointments or helping out with fundraising events.
Gill Haynes: Gill is a volunteer at the Phoenix Centre in St Helens. She supports people with learning disabilities and autism, helping them to develop their skills and independence.
John Jarvis: John is a volunteer at the Clock Tower Project in Sutton Manor. He helps to run the project’s food parcels scheme, which provides food to those in need in the local community.
Eleanor McKenzie: Eleanor is a volunteer at the YMCA in St Helens. She supports young people who are experiencing homelessness or other difficulties, helping them to build their confidence and skills.
Terry Rooney: Terry is a volunteer at the North West Blood Bikes. He provides a free transport service for blood and other medical supplies between hospitals and other healthcare settings.
The winner of the Pride of St Helens Unsung Hero Award 2023 will be announced at the awards ceremony on September 29.
