Dionne decided not to run for re-election

Greg Dionne, who has served as mayor of Prince Albert for 12 years, decided not to run for re-election in the 2020 municipal election. Dionne is the longest-serving mayor in Prince Albert's history.

Dionne said he is proud of what he has accomplished during his time as mayor, including overseeing the construction of a new water treatment plant, a new fire hall, and a new police station. He also pointed to the city's strong financial position and its low crime rate.

Four candidates ran for mayor

Four candidates ran to replace Dionne: Charlene Thomas, Denis Carriere, Murray Reiter, and Don Cody. Thomas was elected mayor with 53% of the vote.

Thomas is a former city councillor and the owner of a local business. She has promised to focus on economic development, infrastructure, and public safety.

Carriere finished second

Carriere finished second in the mayoral race with 27% of the vote. He is a former provincial cabinet minister and the current CEO of the Prince Albert Indian Metis Friendship Centre.

Reiter finished third with 13% of the vote, and Cody finished fourth with 7% of the vote.
