Raw Pistachios Recalled in Canada Over Possible Salmonella Contamination
What Happened?
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall for raw pistachios sold in Canada due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recall affects 14-ounce bags of Wonderful Pistachios No Salt Lightly Roasted Pistachios with a best before date of February 13, 2024.
What is Salmonella?
Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause food poisoning. Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and abdominal cramps. In severe cases, Salmonella poisoning can lead to hospitalization and even death.
What Should You Do?
If you have purchased the affected pistachios, you should not eat them. You should return the pistachios to the store where you purchased them for a full refund.
How Can You Prevent Salmonella Poisoning?
There are a few things you can do to prevent Salmonella poisoning, including:
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling food.
- Cook food to the proper temperature to kill Salmonella bacteria.
- Do not eat raw or undercooked meat, poultry, or eggs.
- Store food properly in the refrigerator.
