Riders Rescued After Being Stranded on California Amusement Park Ride for Over an Hour
What Happened?
On Monday, August 7, 2023, riders on the California Screamin' roller coaster at Disney California Adventure Park were left stranded for over an hour due to a technical issue. The ride came to an abrupt stop shortly after 11 a.m., leaving passengers suspended upside down in their seats.
According to the Orange County Fire Authority, the issue was caused by a power outage that affected the ride's control system. Firefighters responded to the scene and used a ladder truck to evacuate the passengers one by one.
Details of the Incident
The California Screamin' is one of the most popular rides at Disney California Adventure Park, and it was operating at full capacity when the incident occurred. The ride carries riders through a series of loops and inversions at speeds of up to 55 mph.
According to witnesses, the ride came to a sudden stop as it was approaching the top of one of the loops. The passengers were left hanging upside down for over an hour while firefighters worked to evacuate them.
Response from the Park
Disney California Adventure Park has temporarily closed the California Screamin' ride while they investigate the incident. The park has issued a statement apologizing to the riders who were affected and thanking the firefighters for their quick response.
The California Screamin' ride is expected to reopen later this week once the investigation is complete.
