VI: Van der Gijp apologizes to Derksen

Sorry VI viewer, we have bad news

Johan Derksen and René van der Gijp have been through thick and thin together. Johan Derksen was suspended from VI on Friday after saying that he had once raped a woman with a candle. René van der Gijp announced Monday on Veronica Offside that he is leaving VI. He does not want to make a program without Derksen.

Van der Gijp made his decision after sleeping on it for a night. "I had a very restless night," he says. "I don't want to work without Johan. I'm not doing it. No way." Van der Gijp says that he has thought about his decision for a long time. "I've come to the conclusion that I don't want to do it without Johan. I don't see it working without him.”

He had never done it before

Van der Gijp says he spoke to Derksen on Monday morning. "I told him I was going to quit VI. He said he understood. He said he had never done it before." Van der Gijp says he believes Derksen. "I know Johan. I know he's not a bad person. He's just a bit rough around the edges sometimes.”

Van der Gijp says he hopes that Derksen will be back on VI soon. "I think Johan is a great asset to the show. He's a smart man and he's always got something interesting to say. I hope he'll be back soon." It is not clear when Derksen will return to VI. RTL, the broadcaster of VI, has announced that Derksen has been suspended for two weeks.
