Warriors, Clippers Battle for L.A. Supremacy
Curry, Warriors Extend Dominance over Clippers
Stephen Curry's record-breaking performance Thursday night helped the Golden State Warriors extend their dominance over the Los Angeles Clippers in a thrilling 117-112 victory. Curry poured in a season-high 50 points, including eight three-pointers, as the Warriors improved to 10-2 on the season and further solidified their status as the team to beat in the Western Conference.
The Clippers, led by Kawhi Leonard, made a valiant effort to keep pace with the Warriors, but Curry was simply unstoppable. Leonard finished with 33 points, while Paul George added 20 for Los Angeles, but it wasn't enough to overcome Curry's brilliance.
The Warriors have now won eight consecutive games against the Clippers, dating back to January 2019. Curry has been a major factor in that success, averaging 32.6 points per game in those contests.
Injury Woes Linger for Clippers
The Clippers are still dealing with a number of injuries, which has hampered their efforts to compete with the Warriors at full strength. Leonard is dealing with a knee injury, while George is recovering from an elbow injury. Patrick Beverley, who is out with a hand injury, is also a key piece for the Clippers.
The Warriors, on the other hand, are relatively healthy. Curry is back to his MVP form, and Klay Thompson is expected to return from a torn ACL in December. The Warriors also have a number of other talented players, including Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and Kevon Looney.
NBA Power Rankings
The Warriors are currently ranked No. 1 in the NBA power rankings, while the Clippers are ranked No. 3. The two teams are expected to be among the top contenders for the NBA championship this season.
The Warriors will host the Clippers again on January 17, 2023. That game could have major implications for the Western Conference standings and could be an early preview of the NBA Finals.
