Elimination from the Copa America due to a red card will help Timothy Weah to grow as a player, the United States forward has said.

Weah, 21, was sent off in the first half of the US's 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Jamaica on Sunday.

The forward was shown a straight red card for a studs-up challenge on Jamaica's Andre Mariappa.

The United States went on to lose the match after extra-time, with Jamaica scoring the winning goal in the 120th minute.

Weah said he was "disappointed" to have been sent off, but he accepted the referee's decision.

"I'm just moving on from it," Weah said. "I can't dwell on it. It's part of the game. I've just got to learn from it and grow from it."

Weah said he had apologized to his teammates for his red card, and he was determined to make amends for his mistake.

"I just want to help the team in any way I can," Weah said. "I'm still young, and I'm still learning. I'm just going to keep working hard and trying to improve my game."

Weah's red card was the first of his international career. He has scored four goals in 18 appearances for the United States.

The United States will face Mexico in the third-place match on Saturday.
