When is the Nations League draw and how do promotion/relegation play-offs work?
Nations League draw
The Nations League draw for the 2024/25 season will take place on 25 January 2024 at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The 55 UEFA member associations will be divided into four leagues (A, B, C, and D) based on their UEFA coefficient ranking.
The top 16 teams in the UEFA coefficient ranking will be placed in League A, the next 16 teams will be placed in League B, the next 16 teams will be placed in League C, and the remaining 7 teams will be placed in League D.
The teams in each league will be divided into four groups of three or four teams. The teams in each group will play each other home and away in a round-robin format.
Promotion and relegation play-offs
At the end of the group stage, the winners of each group in Leagues B, C, and D will be promoted to the next higher league. The bottom-placed teams in each group in Leagues A, B, and C will be relegated to the next lower league.
In addition, there will be promotion/relegation play-offs between the third-placed teams in Leagues B, C, and D. The winners of these play-offs will be promoted to the next higher league, while the losers will be relegated to the next lower league.
