Yankees' Luis Gil Wins 2024 American League Rookie of the Year Award
New York Yankees’ right-handed pitcher Luis Gil has been named the 2024 American League (AL) Rookie of the Year (ROY), becoming the first Venezuelan-born player to win the award.
Gil emerged as a top prospect for the Yankees in 2021 and made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut in 2023. In 2024, he established himself as one of the league’s most promising young pitchers, showcasing impressive command and control with his fastball, slider, and changeup.
Throughout the 2024 season, Gil made 30 starts, posting a 3.82 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 165 strikeouts in 176.1 innings pitched. He also recorded 14 wins and 7 losses, helping the Yankees secure the AL East division title.
Gil’s stellar performance earned him recognition from both fans and experts, culminating in his selection as the AL ROY, an award determined by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA).
