Dak Prescott Out for Season: Cowboys QB Placed on Injured Reserve
The Dallas Cowboys season took a devastating turn Tuesday when quarterback Dak Prescott was placed on injured reserve and ruled out for the rest of the year.
Prescott suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in the Cowboys' 37-34 win over the New York Giants on Sunday. He underwent surgery Monday to repair the damage, and the team announced Tuesday that he will be placed on injured reserve.
Prescott's injury is a major blow to the Cowboys, who are now 2-3 on the season. He was playing at a high level before getting hurt, completing 68% of his passes for 1,813 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions.
With Prescott out, the Cowboys will turn to backup quarterback Andy Dalton. Dalton has started 131 games in his career, but he has not played well in recent years. He threw 11 interceptions in 11 starts for the Cincinnati Bengals last season.
The Cowboys are still in contention for a playoff spot, but they will need to play well without Prescott. They have a tough schedule ahead, with games against the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Minnesota Vikings still to come.
The Cowboys are hopeful that Prescott will be able to return next season. He is expected to make a full recovery from his injury, but he will need to work hard to get back to the same level of play.
