Ercolano: Explosion in a Fireworks Factory Kills At Least Three
Three people have been killed and one person is seriously injured after an explosion at a fireworks factory in Ercolano, near Naples, Italy.
The blast occurred at around 9.30am local time on Tuesday, 11th October, at the Sirio Fireworks factory in the industrial area of Ercolano. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
The explosion caused significant damage to the factory and surrounding buildings. Several cars were also damaged by the blast.
The injured person has been taken to hospital for treatment. Their condition is described as serious but stable.
The Mayor of Ercolano, Ciro Buonajuto, has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
He said: "This is a tragic day for Ercolano. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and with the injured person. We will do everything we can to support them at this difficult time."
The explosion is the latest in a series of incidents at fireworks factories in Italy. In 2018, an explosion at a fireworks factory in the southern Italian town of Capua killed four people.
