Pride of St Helens 2024 - Child of Courage shortlist

Seven inspirational young people have been shortlisted for the Child of Courage Award at the 2024 Pride of St Helens Awards.

The annual awards, now in their 14th year, celebrate the achievements of inspirational people in the St Helens borough.

The Child of Courage Award is given to a young person who has shown exceptional bravery, resilience or determination in the face of adversity.

The seven shortlisted nominees are:

  1. Jack Aldridge: Jack was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at the age of 10. He has since undergone numerous rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and is now in remission. Despite his illness, Jack has never lost his smile, and he continues to inspire everyone around him with his positive attitude.
  2. Brooke Barratt: Brooke was born with a rare genetic condition called Edwards' syndrome. She has multiple health problems, including heart defects, kidney problems, and developmental delays. Despite her challenges, Brooke is a happy and loving child who brings joy to everyone she meets.
  3. Aiden Cartwright: Aiden was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. He has since made amazing progress, and is now a bright and happy child who loves to learn. Aiden is an inspiration to everyone who knows him, and he shows that anything is possible with the right support.
  4. Lilly-Mai Davies: Lilly-Mai was born with a rare genetic condition called spinal muscular atrophy. She has limited mobility and requires a wheelchair to get around. Despite her challenges, Lilly-Mai is a determined and independent young girl who loves to play and have fun.
  5. Alfie Evans: Alfie was born with a rare genetic condition called non-ketotic hyperglycinemia. He has multiple health problems, including seizures, developmental delays, and a weak immune system. Despite his challenges, Alfie is a happy and loving child who brings joy to everyone he meets.
  6. Mia Heaton: Mia was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma at the age of three. She has since undergone surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, and is now in remission. Mia is a brave and resilient young girl who has never given up hope.
  7. Ethan Hurst: Ethan was born with a rare genetic condition called Down syndrome. He has developmental delays and learning difficulties. Despite his challenges, Ethan is a happy and loving child who brings joy to everyone he meets.

The winner of the Child of Courage Award will be announced at the Pride of St Helens Awards ceremony on Friday, March 22, 2024.

The awards will be held at the Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens, and will be hosted by television presenter Kirsty Gallacher.
